Another lost treasure

The number of times I set my sub woofer to pick up his Jurassic Park sounds I’ll never know…

Michael Crichton – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

John Michael Crichton, M.D. pronounced /?kra?t?n/ [1], (October 23, 1942 – November 4, 2008[2][3]) was an American author, film producer, film director, medical doctor, and television producer best known for his science fiction and techno-thriller novels, films, and television programs. His books have sold over 150 million copies worldwide. His works were usually based on the action genre and heavily feature technology. Many of his future history novels have medical or scientific underpinnings, reflecting his medical training and science background. He was the author of The Andromeda Strain, Congo, Disclosure, Rising Sun, Timeline, State of Fear, Prey, and Next. He was also the creator of the TV series ER, but is probably most famous for being the author of Jurassic Park, and its sequel The Lost World, both adapted into high grossing films and leading to the very successful franchise. The final book he published before his death was Next, and he also had another project set for some time in 2009.

Crichton died on November 4, 2008 at the age of 66 from cancer.

The insight he put into his books was outstanding and inspirational. His works will be missed, I’m sure.

New Season to start

Ok… so I’m a kitchen nerd. Here comes season 4 (I think) of an outstanding show I’ve loved from the start. This is like the “Next Food Network Star” except that these people aren’t necessarily friendly towards each other nor are they trying to impress a camera.

BRAVOtv.com : Top Chef : Season 4 : About the Show

16 Hot New Chefs Take To The Kitchen Along With Padma Lakshmi, Tom Colicchio, Gail Simmons And Ted Allen

Let the flames begin. The newest crop of 16 rising chefs from across the country take on the windy city of Chicago. Returning to the kitchen, cookbook author, actress and host Padma Lakshmi presides over the judge’s table alongside head judge Tom Colicchio, renowned culinary figure and chef/owner, Craft Restaurants, judge Gail Simmons, of Food & Wine Magazine and judge Ted Allen, Emmy-winning cookbook author and TV personality. In what will prove to be the most exciting season yet, some of the biggest and most respected chefs will guest star on “Top Chef: Chicago.”

And although I work until just before midnight, I have my television set to auto-tune to Bravo at 1 am so I can watch the show. Why is this a show I like? I’d like to quote a line from a movie like Armageddon: “Because the money’s good, the scenery changes, and they let me use explosives, okay?” Fire, flames, sharp knives, and back stabbing in it’s finest. It looks like a competition between 8 girls and 7 guys and one person I’ll just have to wait and see. Like always, just from the photos of the contestants or more properly chefs… because lets be honest, as much as I’d love to say I’d be on the show in a moments notice, I’m still learning the proper vocabulary. These “kids” could make this 50 year old, only dream of having the schooling they must of had to get where they are today. But I digress, just from the photos I can see at least one spiked hair cut and 2 or 3 giving the camera one of those “I’m great” snob looks. Seems the network always likes to keep one or two of the misfits around to keep the others in line, lol.
Well here hoping to a great new season…

New Top Chef has been determined

Although Dale was the person I had hoped to have won the competition for the TV series, the winner of the show turned out to be Huynh…

E! News – Top Chef Hangs Title on Hung

Never underestimate a finely prepared piece of raw fish.

Buoyed by his delightful hamachi appetizer, not to mention his meticulous attention to detail, 29-year-old Hung Huynh was named the winner of the third season of Bravo’s Top Chef on Wednesday.

The Massachusetts-born Las Vegas resident looked beyond thrilled when host Padma Lakshmi informed him that his knives were there to stay during the live finale in Chicago.

“I am so excited!” Huynh exclaimed. “I worked so hard to get here and prove myself…I’m speechless, but I’m sure you’ll hear more from me later.”

Well he wasn’t the first selection I had wanted but then again my pallet isn’t too refined…
Congrats to Huyng… best wishes.

Food Network Countdown

The Food Network Is just finishing up the seasons edition of the “Next Food Network Star” and I really hate to say it but… this year was much less enjoyable that last years show. The season just seemed “flat” and lacked luster. Maybe it’s just me but there seemed to be less shows this season and the contestants appeared to just be humdrum.

Next Food Network Star, Competition for Cooking Show, Videos and Finalist Profiles: TV

The competition has boiled down to two finalists: Amy and Rory.

Until Tuesday July 17 at 9am/8c, you can vote once a day online and again with your cell phone.

Well here it is… down to the virtual wire… it was down to 2 people and then one of them dropped out, so the runner up was asked to return; the players…

Amy here did ok in my humble opinion during the comp. She had some issues about being away from her family and did a bit of whining, well to be honest… she whined and cried and tried to suck up more pity than anyone could stand, probably should have gone home after the second or third week… but then thats just me. Half the time I wanted to yell at the tv “There isn’t any crying on Food Network Star!! But then again whom am I to complain… lol

Jag here was also ok, but I had some points that I did and didn’t like about him. Good points are; he isn’t the same ol’thing and he seems to have the ability (if he calmed down) to present some ideas of a different (at least for me) style of cooking. He was on of the finalist but had to retract do to some “discrepancies” he had made in his application when he joined the contest. Part of the things I disliked about him was how he kept pushing the nickname he wanted to use “jag”. It was as if to make a mark as in Pirates of the Caribbean and the pirate Jack Sparrow… “But you have heard of me…”

Rory is the other finalist for the comp. She is also ok… she pushes the program she wants to have on the Food Network, which is good, but I really didn’t see any real flair with her cooking. Maybe she’ll push that if she does win. For me, I don’t really want to see a gourmet next door but something I can make myself, without spending 20 dollars for materials.

Notice how the finalist are all just “ok”? The season could have been so much better but fell down on (at least) my expectations. Previous episodes (last year) showed the different Network personalities work with the contestants more and the mistakes of the up and coming stars. Maybe there were more commercials this year so there was less air time for the actual show…?

One of two top rated cooking shows

Season 3 of Top Chef is going strong…
I hate starting a conversation in the middle of a story, but there isn’t really another way to discuss this show, in 3 shows I think 4 people have already been removed.

Top Chef: Find out About the Hit TV Show ‘Top Chef’ – Official Bravo TV Site

The third season of Bravo’s hit culinary competition series “Top Chef 3 Miami” features 15 of the country’s most impressive rising chefs – all packed in a house in beautiful Miami Beach – where the sun is hot and the competition is hotter.

“Queer Eye”’s culinary expert Ted Allen brings his expertise to the judges table this season, joining cookbook author, actress and host Padma Lakshmi; Tom Colicchio, celebrated culinary figure and co-founder of Craft Restaurants; and returning judge Gail Simmons of Food & Wine. The 15 contestants will reside in the luxurious beachfront Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach, where the season’s production activity will be centered.

It’s amazing the things some of the chefs come up with during a typical show
